Greetings from Port Orange, FL!.
On Sunday, May 13, the Mahapawn Bangkok (previously Sukhumwit) Church that we were a part of for fourteen years held a farewell luncheon for us in their beautiful facility. Tears flowed as they shared memories and words of gratitude. At the conclusion of the worship service that followed the pastor asked who would accept the baton from the Fords and continue the work of reaching Thailand and our world for Christ. Nearly the entire congregation of 300 stood. What a thrill as we remembered back to 1983 when we began with three people in rented quarters, and now to see what God had done. The next morning at 6am we boarded a plane to return to the US. Many emotions and memories filled our minds. This was our final departure from Asia, and Thailand as career missionaries. Thirty-eight years of active ministry in Asia was coming to a close. There was so much for which to praise God. To Him be all the glory!
Thirty hours later we deplaned in Orlando, FL. Our first task was to get settled into our little cottage in the woods in Port Orange, God’s gracious provision. Then we were off to Council in Orlando in late May. There we were graciously honored with a beautiful plaque, and given a sizeable gift toward the purchase of a vehicle. We were particularly pleased that our daughter, Jan, and family could be there, their first time at an Alliance Council.
Dorie and I want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the C&MA. It has been a great blessing to serve with the Alliance these many years. We have been wonderfully cared and provided for. You are part of that family and we thank you for your faithful support. It would all have been impossible without you.
A few weeks later we were back in Orlando for HAMS, Home Assignment Ministry Seminar, and at LIFE, the Alliance youth conference. What a thrill to see 7500 youth committed to Christ.
Of course it has been great having time with our families again, particularly our children and grand children. Our daughter, Jan, lives just a few miles from us. Eddie, our son, is in NC, so we have seen him a bit less. This past weekend we had them all around our table for a meal - first time since 2003 when we departed for our final term in Thailand.
The next major event on our schedule is tour. We depart September 15 for three plus weeks of ministry in central OH, and then after a few days break, we are in MI for ten days. We also plan to share at Dorie’s home church in IN, and at my brother’s church in NY. Other opportunities are scheduled in FL. Presently we are in the midst of preparing for those ministries. We would very much appreciate your prayers.
Praise God the work to reach the Isaan continues! Please continue to support Jim and Kathy Sappia as they lead the effort. Pray for Deb Holonitch who continues language study. They will be joined by Stacy Maikkula in August, and by Jon and Joy Chase in September. Praise God for the reinforcements! Continue to pray that doors will open, that God will move in the hearts of the Isaan, and that workers will come forward called of God that we might see a breakthrough among the Isaan of NE Thailand.
Blessings on you and thank you so much for your faithful support!
